Suprita Das
Suprita is a Senior Sports Correspondent and Sports Anchor with New Delhi Television (NDTV), India’s oldest television news channel. NDTV has just completed 25 years in the broadcast business, and easily remains India’s most trusted television news network. Suprita’s tryst with Sports Journalism started with the 2006 FIFA World Cup, when she interned with NDTV. And there has been no looking back since then. As much as she enjoys watching cricket, it is not what enjoys covering as a journalist. Suprita almost single handedly covers non-cricket sports for NDTV, with tennis, hockey and boxing being her personal favourites. She covered the Commonwealth and Asian Games in 2010, and the London Olympics in 2012. She considers herself extremely fortunate to have been a part of history, having witnessed India win a record six medals in London. Alternate sports in India is here to stay, she believes. And while it’s unfair to compare cricket with anything else, the time for India’s non-cricket athletes to shine, will come. Her favourite Indian sportsperson though is a cricketer, Rahul Dravid, with Pullela Gopichand and MC Mary Kom, coming in a close second.
Suprita is a graduate in Mass Communications from Kolkata’s St Xavier’s College. She pursued her post-graduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism, from the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai, and ended as batch topper. She underwent a training programme with the BBC, during the course.
