Sid Vashist

Councillor Sid Vashist joined Barkly Regional Council in September last year after the elections and represents the Patta Ward. He is the youngest ever elected councillor to serve on Council.
A migrant Australian-Indian, he has lived in remote regions of Australia for the past 13 years. He has called Tennant Creek home for the past seven years and truly believes in the beauty and potential of the Barkly region.
During his time in Tennant Creek, Cr Vashist has co-managed the local supermarket, worked as a commercial teller at Westpac, and managed pilot youth projects and diversionary youth programs while with Catholic Care NT. He held an active role in establishing the 2016 trial project for an after-hours youth centre; now called Youth Links.
He has an insatiable curiosity about the political, social and economic landscape in the Northern Territory, as well as promoting youth. He is committed to learning about and supporting residents across the region.
His role as a councillor offers a unique opportunity to hear from and work for the community. It also allows him the chance to participate in the delivery of policies which provide positive outcomes for the region.
He is a firm believer in an open and transparent council which has great relationships with the community, shapes positive and creative perceptions and establishes firm links in business, arts, education, and a civil society.
In his spare time, when not playing sports, you will find Cr Vashist taking photos. He holds a degree in Finance and Management and is pursuing a Masters in Politics.
