CHAITANYA MARPAKWAR

Chaitanya Marpakwar is an award winning journalist (Assistant Editor) with the Times of India based in Mumbai. He covers govt and politics. In his journalism career he has received several top awards for investigative journalism including the Ramnath Goenka award twice (the latest for his extensive reportage on the citizen-led Save Aarey movement in Mumbai) and the RedInk award. He graduated in journalism from Mumbai’s St. Xavier’s College. Also a law graduate from Mumbai University, he has an MA in Political Communication from UK’s Cardiff University. He was a recipient of the Asia Journalism Fellowship in Singapore and the Robert Bosch Stiftung’s India-Germany Media Ambassadors Fellowship in Germany. He was a fellow at Korea Verband’s Exchange Program for Regional Integration in East Asia and Europe (EPRIE) in Japan & South Korea. He was conferred the British Council’s India-UK Achievers Honours in 2023. He believes that the way stories are told is changing in the digital age but the values that drive real public spirited journalism are still the same and that it is important to rebuild local journalism as an essential democratic force. He teaches journalism at St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai as visiting faculty and was the coordinator of the Maharashtra legislators executive program at the University of Wales Trinity St David (UWTSD), UK in Nov 2023.
